On Wednesday 25 September, Susan and David Rockefeller, together with the Girard-Perregaux Manufacture, will join forces with musician and record producer Nile Rodgers for the 'Changing Watch' event in support of We Are Family, a non-profit organisation that creates and supports programmes aimed at inspiring and educating future generations about respect, understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity, while seeking to solve some of the biggest global issues. "We are proud to support Susan, David, Nile and the We Are Family Foundation," says Michele Sofisti, CEO of Sowind (Girard-Perregaux and Jeanrichard). "Just as this foundation trains young ambassadors of the Earth, we train young master watchmakers to ensure that the art of watchmaking is preserved and passed on to future generations." During the evening, which will be held at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York, the watchmaker will present two special edition watches designed in collaboration with Susan Rockefeller, "Mission of Mermaids" (MoM), and inspired by the recent documentary made by Susan and dedicated to the sea and its preservation. The Sea Hawk MoM is inspired by the green of nature, as seen in the mysterious mermaid engraved on the case back, representing the ambitious desire to protect the oceans. With a stainless steel case and rubber strap, the timepiece is equipped with a self-winding mechanical movement, calibre GP03300-0074. The Girard-Perregaux Small Chronograph MoM in a steel case, set with diamonds and with a column wheel, visible through the transparent dial, is dedicated to ladies. The watch is engraved with Susan's motto, 'Protect what is precious', to raise awareness of environmental causes. The movement is GP030c0-s0nss-006, self-winding. The event will also include a charity auction in aid of We Are Family, a special performance by Nile Rodgers, who incidentally is also the founder of the Foundation, and music by DJ Q-Tip.
