We returned to Jaeger-LeCoultre with another group of enthusiasts who are members of L'Orologio Club. Confirming the greatness of the manufacture, our guests were able to discover yet more secrets.
A visit to the factory Jaeger-LeCoultre of Le Sentier, in the heart of the Swiss Jura, proved to be an unforgettable experience for members of The Clock Club who participated in the 2025 event. The tour started with a workshop on precisionduring which participants were invited to reflect on precisely what precision means in watchmaking, experimenting directly with measuring instruments.
Antoine LeCoultre's invention of a machine capable of producing pinions, one of the smallest but fundamental components of a watch movement as it supports the entire architecture of the calibre, allowed him to ensure constant precision in productionleading him to found his own manufactory in 1833.
A surprising fact that emerged during the visit is that Jaeger-LeCoultre has been a supplier of movements for many prestigious haute horlogerie brands for yearsearning him the nickname 'Watchmaker's Watchmaker'. This has led to the development of more than 1,400 different calibres and numerous patents, covering not only movements, but also functions and cases.
The shock resistance of watches
A particularly impressive demonstration allowed participants to understand the extreme robustness required of a high-end watch.
They learned that a watch falling from a table experiences a force of approximately 5,000 Gwhereas for a car, type approval tests require a resistance of just 5 Gs. An incredible figure for a watch, despite its small size and the delicacy of its components.
The experience strengthened and in some cases transformed the visitors' opinion of the brand. One guest confides: 'Having known the people and places, I feel a greater connection to the brand. And lately this is one of the aspects that most influence my choices: an experience that goes far beyond the messages conveyed by marketing.
