Jaquet Droz - The Bird Repeater Watches

Jaquet Droz's great savoir-faire of craftsmanship in the manufacture of dials and in the creation of one of the most popular motifs of the 18th century, that of songbirds, is expressed in a new exclusive timepiece that adopts one of the most sophisticated and difficult complications to make: the minute repeater. The hand-engraved and hand-painted mother-of-pearl dial depicts a pair of titmice gathered around the nest housing their chicks. Thanks to a complex mechanism, this three-dimensional painting literally comes to life: while one of the two birds bends down to feed the chick, the other spreads its wings, revealing delicate colour nuances to the eye. In the centre of the nest, an egg hatches, allowing a glimpse of a chick, while the water in the waterfall continues to flow ceaselessly.

The creation of The Bird Repeater, a real automaton based on a cam system developed during the 18th century, required contributions from all the decorative trades.
