Lange 1 '25th Anniversary': the sixth model

The Lange 1 Moon Phase, the sixth model in the "25th Anniversary" collection, was presented yesterday at the opening of the Lange Boutique in Zurich. In a limited edition of 25 pieces in white gold, the new watch shows the moon at all times of day: during the day, the moon appears against the backdrop of a light blue sky devoid of stars, while at night it stands out against a dark blue firmament studded with 383 twinkling stars. The moon is therefore always visible against a realistic background that simultaneously serves as a day/night indicator. This facilitates, for instance, setting the watch so that the date always advances at midnight and not inadvertently at noon. The combination of moon phase and day/night indication is constructed in two layers. It consists of a solid gold sky disc with blue tones that rotates around its own axis once every 24 hours and reproduces the alternation of day and night. Against this backdrop, the white gold moon traverses the synodic revolution period of 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes and 3 seconds with such precision that a correction of only one day is required every 122.6 years. An interplay of silver and blue contrasts unfolds on the off-centre silver-plated dial: the burnished steel hands and the inscription in the same colour shade create a harmony with the sky disc in different shades of blue. The watch is fitted with a blue alligator strap with a solid white gold pin buckle. The hand-wound L121.3 calibre is based on the L121.1 calibre presented in 2015. The 70 additional moon phase and day/night display elements have been integrated into the movement and have kept its diameter of 38.5 millimetres unchanged, while its height is only 0.4 millimetres higher. It also features the same technical merits, including a double barrel with a maximum power reserve of 72 hours, an Up/Down power reserve display, and an "exactly jumping" Big Date display. The movement section consisting of an eccentric balance and a balance spring operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour. As with all other models in the "25th Anniversary" collection, the Lange 1 Moon Phase features a special movement detail: the number 25 has been integrated into the blue hand-engraving of the balance bridge. At the same time, this number refers to the strictly limited number of anniversary models. The price of the watch is 44,400 euros.
