Mido Commander Gradient Catrines Special Edition

For the sixth model dedicated to the traditional feast of Dia de Muertos, Mido pays homage to Mexican cultural identity with the Commander Gradient Catrina, the latest creation in this particular collection. This line has long been reserved for the Mexican market. However, over time the collection has become one of the brand's most distinctive, attracting the attention of watch enthusiasts around the world.

The famous skull, the symbol of this festival in honour of the dead, surrounded by flowers and embellished with bright, phosphorescent shades, decorates the shaded dial. Light blue, purple, turquoise, orange, dark blue, anise green, fuchsia, white, bright green: an explosion of shades illuminates the dial of the new Commander Gradient Catrina.

Both cheerful and provocative, this new model continues the Mido tradition of special editions dedicated to Día de Muertos, which began in 2020. The emblematic figure of the Catrina, surrounded by flowers, perfectly matches the design of the Commander, a watch produced by Mido without interruption since 1959.

Through the shaded acrylic dial one glimpses the Calibre 80 (in particular the date disc), readable in a window at 3 o'clock. This latest-generation mechanical automatic movement (21,600 vibrations per hour and 80-hour power reserve) is very reliable, also thanks to the adoption of the Nivachron balance spring. The Calibre 80 itself is visible on the caseback side.

Mido celebrates Dia de Muertos

Since 2020, Mido has presented a new model dedicated to this traditional Mexican festival every year.

The aforementioned dial, the real star of the Mido Commander Gradient Catrina, dhe night lights up thanks to the use of SuperLuminova, emitting an eye-catching blue and green phosphorescence, and making Catrina's face appear surrounded by a floral motif.

Colours and luminescence also play with the polished indexes - with a central groove decorated in purple, yellow, dark blue or turquoise - and the hands, with blue luminescence. A domed, facetted sapphire crystal protects the dial.

The 40 mm satin-finished steel case, surmounted by a polished bezel with rounded shapes, is complemented by a bracelet and two straps, which are easily interchangeable. The bracelet (with a folding clasp with push-buttons) is in satin-finished steel, the two straps are in black leather with blue stitching and textured orange rubber, with the latter recalling the emblematic colour of Mido, but also that of the cempasúchil, or 'flor de muerto'.
