Omega launches the fourth generation of the Seamaster Planet Ocean, with a new 42 mm steel case combined with a bracelet made of the same metal or a rubber strap.
The underwater tradition of Omega began in 1932 with the Marine model, considered the first true civilised dive watch. This long history has led, over the decades, to the creation of models such as the Seamaster 300, the Seamaster 1000 and the famous Ploprof, all characterised by advanced innovations and excellent performance. In 2005, the first generation of the Planet Ocean was presented, expanding the aesthetic language of the Seamaster line.
When it comes to professional diver's watches, one of the most recognisable models is undoubtedly the Seamaster Planet Ocean of Omega. Now, the Bienne-based company is presenting its fourth generation, available in three variants according to the colour of the ceramic insert in the bezel, which is, of course, unidirectional rotating, and Arabic numeral indices positioned at the quarters on the black dial.
The Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M uses a new 42 mm steel case, with a design characterised by sharper lines and water resistance to 600 metres. Inside the same case beats the automatic calibre of manufacture 8912 (the same one used on the Ultra Deep, 25,200 vibrations per hour and with silicon coil)latest-generation movement equipped with a Co-Axial escapement and certified Master Chronometer. This certification, issued by METAS, guarantees the highest level of performance in terms of precision, magnetic resistance and durability.
In fact, the movement offers a rexistence to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss, ideal for those who work or live in environments with high magnetic exposure, as well as dseries-mounted barrel opio, to distribute torque evenly (the power reserve is 60 hours). In keeping with Omega's tradition, then, the movement sports a beautiful finish with a Côtes de Genève guilloche pattern.
Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M: seven new versions
The new Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M is offered with a steel bracelet or a rubber strap.
As mentioned, the new Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M employs a 42 mm steel case (for 13.65 mm thickness), diameter not excessive and faithful to the early Planet Ocean of 2005.
The matt black dial offers optimal legibility thanks to the applied geometric indices and the iconic arrow hands, all filled with SuperLuminova to ensure visibility even in the deep sea. The unidirectional rotating bezel, a fundamental element for a diver's watch, completes the sporty and functional design.
The latter is available in black, blue or orange. Between the bezel and the sapphire crystal (subjected to an internal and external anti-reflective treatment), there is a polished grade 5 titanium ring, which makes the watch more reliable during deep dives. Also noteworthy is the absence of a date display, as well as that of the helium valve, as well as the presence of Arabic numeral indices at the quarters.
The new steel bracelet, solid and comfortable, is equipped with a folding clasp with a diving extension, indispensable for wearing the watch over a wetsuit. Consisting of three rows of flat links, alternating polished (for the central links) and satin finishes. However, a black rubber strap with folding clasp is also available for all three colour versions, as well as an orange strap (also made of rubber) for the model with a bezel in the same colour. Finally, the screw-down case back is made of titanium and is engraved with the famous seahorse, the collection's logo.
Pricesfrom 8,500 to 9,400 euro.
