Yesterday evening in Milan, at the Fashion Café in Via San Marco, the awards ceremony for the 2019 edition of the Orologio dell'Anno (Watch of the Year) prize was held, an important award assigned by our magazine L'Orologio to 12 timepieces, expressing the taste of Italian watch enthusiasts, carrying on a tradition inaugurated in 1994. The formula for the award saw the pre-selection of 36 watches, chosen by the editorial staff from among the major market trends and divided into 12 distinct categories: Solotempo, Chronograph, Underwater Watch, Complicated Watch, Tourbillon, Mechanical Innovation, Design, Savoir-Faire, Ladies' Watch, Calendars, New Technologies, Value for Money. This year, 11,748 readers accepted the invitation and, through their preferences, decreed the winner in each category. "I dedicate this edition of the award to the memory of my father, Renato Giussani, who conceived it and started what has now been an unmissable appointment for the sector for 25 years," commented Dody Giussani, Editorial Director of L'Orologio, in front of an audience of insiders, enthusiasts and readers of the magazine. For the fifth consecutive year, members of the L'Orologio Club, the exclusive club of enthusiasts created in 2009 by L'Orologio magazine, were also invited to express their preference: thanks to the votes of the 65 members, the title of Watch of the Year was awarded to one of the 36 watches nominated: the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Extra-Flat Automatic by Audemars Piguet.
