Parmigiani Fleurier at the 2018 Montreux Jazz Festival

For the 11th consecutive year, Parmigiani Fleurier was confirmed as Global Partner of the Montreux Jazz Festival, the well-known music festival held on the shores of Lake Geneva, Switzerland. The latest edition, number 52, held from 29 June to 14 July, saw the participation of big names in international music, including Zucchero, Massive Attack, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Iggy Pop, Deep Purple and Billy Idol. For the occasion, Parmigiani Fleurier presented ten special editions of the Kalpa collection, with a dial embellished with a musical motif as a tribute to MJF. The evocation of a piano keyboard decorates the rim of the Kalpa Grande - for the male audience - and the Kalparisma with diamonds for the female clientele. This motif, with its alternation of black and white keys, is obtained using the épargne technique. After a soleil satin finish, the cadranier masks the surfaces of the motif, which must remain clear in the final decoration. He then proceeds to sandblast the areas not protected by the épargne, which will become the black keys and the interstices of the keyboard. It is the galvanic colouring that reveals the contrast: the difference between the two surface treatments, between sandblasted and satin-finished, makes the keys look like a keyboard. Each of the two special editions of the watch is limited to five pieces and is engraved 'Montreux Jazz Festival 2018' on the back.
