Patek Philippe Gondolo Serata 'Zebra'

Patek Philippe presents a new Gondolo Serata, featuring an innovative sapphire dial with a 'Zebra' motif.

Presented in 2006, the Gondolo Serata di Patek Philippe is immediately recognisable by its distinctive curved, Art Deco-inspired case. With its characteristic design, it is a contemporary reinterpretation of the evening watch. The first versions, in white gold with diamonds and with guilloché mother-of-pearl dials, went out of production in 2021 (these are Ref. 4972G-001 and 4972/1G-001).

Two years ago, this jewellery watch returned to Patek Philippe's current collection, then a version with a slightly larger rose gold case, set with spangles and a brown lacquered dial with floral decoration (Ref. 4962/200R-001).

Now Patek Philippe is offering a new reinterpretation, featuring a dial decorated with a zebra pattern, which draws inspiration from the Golden Ellipse with Ref. 5738/50G-023 with a cloisonné enamel dial, a of the highlights of the High Craftsman 2022 collection.

Gondolo Serata 'Zebra': an innovative decorated dial

The zebra effect visible on the dial is achieved through an innovative technique.

To recreate the visual play of stripes, with the zebra in the foreground, Patek Philippe this time, however, resorted to an innovative technique: the dial is made of sapphire crystal, engraved and coated with ink on both sides. The decoration is then completed with black metallisation and white paint on the back of the dial to create a special effect of depth and volume. The time is indicated thanks to two Breguet-style Arabic numerals applied at 12 and 6 o'clock, and pink gold leaf hands.

The pink gold case measuring 28.6 x 40.85 mm is embellished with 94 brilliant-cut diamonds (equal to 2.02 carats) arranged in a double colour gradient, ranging from 'cognac' tones at 12 and 6 o'clock to 'tangerine' tones at 9 and 3 o'clock. This effect of light and dark, together with the different sizes of the stones, enhances the "cambré" profile of the case, which wraps around the wrist with its asymmetrical curves, emphasised by the second row of spessartite in the lower area.

The new Gondolo Serata 'Zebra' with Ref. 4962/200R-010 from Patek Philippe is completed by a white calfskin strap with a satin finish. The rose gold pin buckle is customised. Finally, the watch is driven by the Patek Philippe quartz E15 calibre, whose mechanical components are finished with the same care and workmanship that characterises the company's mechanical movements.
