Porsche Design 1919 Chronotimer Flyback Blue & Leather

Two years ago, Porsche Design launched the 1919 Chronotimer Flyback Brown & Leather, a chronograph that set new standards in the world of luxury wristwatches. Equipped with a flyback function with chronometrically certified precision, Porsche Design's Werk 01.200 movement represents the avant-garde. In addition to its innovative inner workings, the watch, like the legendary Porsche 911, combines uncompromising functions, carefully designed in every detail with an expressive sporty appearance. Now, Porsche Design is launching this chronograph in a new edition with a bold colour combination. The dial and strap, the latter made from the leather of Porsche car interiors, are a soft shade of blue. The Porsche 911 is an undisputed icon that has been the dream of all sports car enthusiasts for decades. Since its launch in 1963, this car has been synonymous with a perfect combination of design and performance. The secret of this iconic car's success is surprisingly simple. Its designer, Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, always focused on form and function, so that the legendary minimalist design was a natural consequence. 'Design must be honest,' the company founder emphasised. This maxim also applies to Porsche Design watches, which transfer the DNA of the sports car into the design of a wristwatch. The Chronotimer Flyback Blue & Leather continues the tradition of the first watch created by the company, the Chronograph I, introduced by Prof. F.A. Porsche in 1972. The large-scale, high-contrast dial is all about readability, so the focus is immediately on the essentials - the time display and chronograph functions. The Arabic numerals and bar indices, combined with the use of Super-Luminova, increase readability in difficult lighting conditions and at night. The sapphire glass, with its seven layers and hard coating on both sides, prevents all reflections of light, thus ensuring excellent readability. All watches in the 1919 collection, including the Chronotimer Flyback, are made of titanium. Despite its low weight, this high-tech material from the world of motor racing is extremely elastic and resistant. With the same volume, it is lighter than 46% compared to stainless steel, but significantly stronger, non-magnetic, anti-allergic, and resistant to salt water and heat. In keeping with the principle of lightness, the case is designed as thin as possible. The hallmark of the 1919 Collection are the characteristic openings on the lugs and their shape that fits perfectly on the bracelet. These features not only eliminate the disadvantages of standard lugs, i.e. the connection via a spring bar, but also lend a unique lightness to the puristic aesthetics of the collection. The owner of a Porsche Design watch can literally feel the connection to the sports car: the strap is made of the original leather from the interiors of Porsche cars. The 1919 Chronotimer Flyback Blue & Leather is powered by Werk Calibre 01.200. This chronograph calibre has a flyback mechanism that allows the measurement of intervals, e.g. lap times on the track. It uses a single process for start, stop and reset. The bridges are optimised for load/stress. The special architecture allows a perfect view of the flyback function mechanism through the sapphire glass back and is further proof of the implementation of the lightweight principle. Being representative of Porsche Design, the movement is black. Its energy-optimised rotor with PD-Icon engraving is PVD-coated and partially made of tungsten. Extremely difficult to machine, this material provides the necessary weight to ensure an extremely powerful winding. The Werk 01.200 calibre is C.O.S.C. certified after verification of the accuracy of its performance. With an overall package combining engineering expertise, performance and aesthetics, the 1919 Chronotimer Flyback Blue & Leather is available for €5,950 in Porsche Design flagship boutiques, specialised shops and online at www.porsche-design.com.
