Linking itself to the world of cars, the brand Ralph Lauren revives the myth of the legendary Bugatti with its new Sporting collection, a preview of the forthcoming Geneva Show 2011. Every detail of the watch is a reference to the refined interiors of the 1938 57SC Atlantic Coupe model, starting with the outer perimeter of the dial in elm burl, one of the most precious and sought-after woods because of its elaborate grain, used in the construction of the Bugatti dashboard and traditionally employed by artists and sculptors. Black, on the other hand, is the centre of the dial and the calfskin strap, just like the leather seats of the vintage car so beloved of designer Ralph Lauren. In keeping with the original instrumentation, moreover, the watch's time display is entrusted to Arabic numerals for greater legibility. At the heart of the watch is the mechanical hand-wound RL98295 calibre movement, made by IWC for Ralph Lauren and visible through the sapphire crystal opening in the case back.
