Richard Mille RM 11-03 Automatic Chronograph Flyback

rm-11-03_redgoldRestyling' is an indispensable and critical stage in the life cycle of any product, including watches. A watch must therefore live and integrate into the natural stylistic evolution of a brand, and a staple of the Richard Mille collection since 2007 has been the RM 011, which gives way to its successor, the new RM 11-03 Chronograph Automatic Flyback. For Richard Mille, the guiding principle in updating this model was to give the new RMAC3 automatic movement a further three-dimensionality, in order to emphasise its complexity visually as well. The coloured rings, with their bevelled and polished edges, give greater depth to the chronograph counters. This effect is further accentuated by the satin-brushed grade 5 titanium upper bridge, contrasting with the rest of the movement, which is also made of titanium, but with a PVD coating; creating a virtual path that extends around the indications of the annual calendar, with its grand date, the 12-hour totaliser and the countdown counter of the flyback chronograph. The "labyrinth" continues on the back of the movement with the satin-finished, PVD-coated lower bridge highlighting the double barrel mechanism and the new design of the adjustable geometry rotor in grade 5 titanium with PVD coating, inspired by the aerodynamic appendages found on Formula 1 cars. This technical solution, a Richard Mille exclusive, makes it possible to adapt the automatic winding to the wearer's activity level, thanks to the adjustment to 6 possible positions of two micro-bevelled and beveled 18K white gold fins that modify the inertia of the rotor, mounted on a ceramic ball bearing. Performance is also outstanding, thanks to the new RMAC3 automatic movement. The entire flyback chronograph has been designed for maximum rigidity for the optimal functioning of the gear train, thanks to the use of grade 5 titanium for both the mainplate and the bridges. The two barrels offer a constant torque release and a power reserve of approximately 55 hours. The free-sprung balance with 28,800 vibrations per hour is extremely shock-resistant and can be adjusted more precisely than conventional balance wheels. The three-part tonneau case has also benefited from the designers' work on updating the lines, without distorting the original concept, but gaining a more sporty and dynamic character. The silhouette of this watch, which first appeared on the RM 27-01 Rafael Nadal, has become one of the distinguishing features of Richard Mille's sports watches, differentiating them from the brand's traditional timepieces while enhancing their structural resistance. Details reminiscent of motor racing abound in the RM 11-03. The crown, made of grade 5 titanium, is inspired by the design of rims and tyre treads. The grooved buttons, machined from the same material, recall the pattern of the pedals and have a protection made from another material just as popular in Formula 1 as titanium, namely NTPT carbon. As always in the house of Richard Mille, the entire movement can be admired through anti-reflective sapphire glass to appreciate its workmanship. The case, available in red or white gold, or in titanium, is closed by 20 slotted-head screws in grade 5 titanium. The Chronograph Flyback RM 11-03 is a sporty watch in every sense and proudly displays the brand's new aesthetic code, deeply inspired by motor racing and its history.
