Rio 2016: Omega and the Olympics

Today marks the official opening of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, the thirty-first in history. Brazil is the first South American state to host the Games, and Omega for the twenty-sixth time is playing a leading role in the most anticipated sporting event of the year, as Official Timekeeper. Among the latest technologies that Omega will be fielding, the Scan'O'Vision Myria is a photofinish device capable of capturing 10,000 digital images per second and of higher quality than previous versions. The starting blocks have also been improved with integrated sensors that detect false starts and each has a speaker connected to the starting gun so that all athletes hear the signal at the same time. With golf returning to the Olympics after more than a century, Omega has also introduced new scoreboards dedicated to this discipline.
