Roger Dubuis presents a new Excalibur Spider in a flyback chronograph version, with a pink gold case and produced in only 88 pieces.
The new Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Flyback Chronograph with 45 mm pink gold case combined with black DLC-coated titanium elements, limited to just 88 pieces, perfectly embodies the philosophy of the Geneva-based Maison. Namely, that of creating watches that transcend the boundaries of time, becoming true mechanical works of art.
This new chronograph is driven by the IWC-manufactured RD780SQ calibre (28,800 vibrations per hour, 72-hour power reserve)an integrated automatic chronograph movement developed entirely in-house, representing the fifth generation of Roger Dubuis chronographs. Equipped with vertical friction and column wheel, this skeleton calibre boasts well16 distinct finishes, including Poinçon de Genève certification. These finishes are meticulously applied to each surface of each individual component, creating a fascinating interplay of matt and glossy surfaces.
In addition, the column wheel itself is finished with a 'poly zinc' decoration, a sophisticated and highly demanding technique that imparts an intense lustre and is usually reserved for unconventionally shaped components. The gauge The RD780SQ is visible through the sapphire glass porthole on the case back.
Patent-pending innovations: when technology serves aesthetics
The Excalibur Spider Flyback Chronograph by Roger Dubuis has two innovations for which patents have been applied for.
The first innovation is the 120° Rotating Minute Counter (RMC) positioned at 3 o'clock, which offers a dynamic display of the chronograph minutes. This counter features a patent-pending tripartite sphere bearing the numerals 0, 1 and 2. When rotated, this tripartite sphere "matches" the numerals 0 to 9 on the right, allowing the reading of the chronograph minutes from 0 to 30. The second innovation is the Second Braking System (SBS), which, integrated into the vertical clutch mechanism, stabilises the chronograph seconds sphere, eliminating vibrations and flickering.
The aforementioned 45 mm case in 18-carat rose gold (water-resistant to 10 atmospheres of pressure) features a fully skeletonised construction, which reveals the internal mechanical complexity. The symmetrical quadrant on several levels creates a very special aesthetic depth, while the barbell inclined by 12° is positioned at 9 o'clock. The silicon escapement is diamond-coated.
The five-arm rotor, visible from the back side, is a motorsport reference: Its design is in fact inspired by the wheels of a supercar. The watch is completed by a black rubber strap with Quick Release System. The triple folding clasp is in pink gold and titanium. Finally, a curiosity: the number '88', Monsieur Roger Dubuis' lucky charm, not only defines the limited edition of this timepiece, but also discreetly appears on the tachymeter scale (located along the edge of the dial), adding a discreet and personal touch to this exclusive chronograph.
