Seiko celebrates 50 years of the Nissan GT-R

A new GMT chronograph from the Grand Seiko sports collection pays tribute to a classic yet emblematic Japanese sports car, the NissanGT-R, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year with a special edition. The new Grand Seiko model is equipped with a Spring Drive calibre - a movement exclusive to the Manufacture - with a chronograph function and features a 46.4 mm ceramic case, expressing the brand's cutting-edge sports technology. Presented in 1969, the Nissan Skyline 2000 GT-R was the first car in this famous series. Since then, the GT-R has earned its place in sports car history, setting an absolute standard in performance and has continually demonstrated Nissan's passion and mastery for the automotive industry. The combination of cutting-edge technology with Japanese skill makes possible the precision and high performance of each generation of these extraordinary sports cars. Grand Seiko, since its inception in 1960, has set the highest watchmaking standards, such as precision, resistance and legibility, thanks to the skills and experience of its Japanese watchmakers and craftsmen. The unique Spring Drive technology was launched a full 20 years ago. Both Grand Seiko and Nissan GT-R are determined to offer the best possible performance, and this shared goal of perfection is clearly expressed in this commemorative watch, marking the collaboration of the two great brands. The watch will be available from June in selected Seiko and Grand Seiko boutiques, and from selected partners around the world. The NISSAN GT-R 50th anniversary watch pays tribute to the Skyline 2000 GT-R racing car and will be available until the end of March 2020. The design of the watch is inspired by the GT-R's iconic blue colour, known to connoisseurs as 'Bayside blue', which is reflected in the exterior of the blue ceramic case. The ceramic, which covers the high-density titanium inner case with a particularly high lustre, protects the watch from scratches, makes it comfortable on the wrist and offers water resistance of 10 atmospheres. The Nissan racing livery with its distinctive white band is represented by the white crocodile strap and the silver-coloured white dial, which create a perfect aesthetic harmony with the blue of the ceramic case. The Spring Drive movement is visible through the sapphire crystal case back as well as the 18 Ct yellow gold GT-R Anniversary emblem decorating the oscillating weight, indicating the enhanced level of accuracy of ±0.5 seconds per day. The chronograph measures elapsed time up to 12 hours and is the perfect calibre with which to celebrate the double anniversary of Spring Drive and the Nissan GT-R. The watch is being produced in a limited series of 200 pieces.
