Nominated for the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève 2024, SpaceOne's Tellurium is a resolutely innovative watch with solar system animation.
After a debut inspired by 19th century watchmaking, the young and talented Theo Auffret (born in 1995) devoted himself full-time to his Spaceone brand, founded together with Guillaume Laidet. With a leap of a couple of centuries, it went from high-end tourbillons, made in very limited editions, to watches with designs and functions reminiscent of the space conquest era.
One of these is the Tellurium, finalist at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève 2024 in the Challenge categoryIt has a titanium case in an unusual shape, expressly inspired by the design of aerospace equipment, and is powered by a self-winding Soprod calibre, modified in-house by Theo Auffret.
The module it employs (already patented) allows the rotation of the Earth and the Moon around a small Sunplaced in the centre of the aventurine dial. Sold out at a surprisingly low price of €3,647.80.
A reinvented 'digital' display
Taking a radically different approach to traditional watches, the all-new SpaceOne WorldTimer replaces the classic hands with a system of rotating discs.
The architecture of this model, on sale for €3,294, is built around four key elements: a minute disc at 3 o'clock, a central seconds disc, a 12-hour disc at 6 o'clock and finally two coaxial discs at 9 o'clock showing the time in 24 time zones and the corresponding cities. The Worldtimer complication, developed and assembled in France by Theo Auffret, is based on a Swiss automatic movement, Soprod calibre P02.
SpaceOne's catalogue also includes the Jumping Hour modelsold out with a price starting from 1,830 euro: it is a space capsule-shaped saltarello in which the glass through which the hour and minute discs can be seen looks like the cockpit canopy, while the crown on the opposite side is reminiscent of an engine nozzle. Again, the movement is an automatic Soprod calibre, with an additional module made by Auffret for the jumping hours. Website: www.spaceonewatches.com; Instagram: @spaceonewatches.
