TAG Heuer pays tribute to the great Brazilian racing driver Ayrton Senna with two new versions of the Formula 1 Chronograph, one with an automatic movement and the other with a quartz movement.
TAG Heuer pays tribute to Ayrton Senna with two new chronographs that embody the legendary Brazilian driver's competitive spirit. Presented on the occasion of the Brazilian F1 Grand Prix, to be held on Sunday 9 November, The new TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph x Senna is the latest chapter in a historic collaboration between TAG Heuer and the late champion.
The story between TAG Heuer and Ayrton Senna began in 1988, the year the Brazilian driver won his first Formula 1 world title driving a McLaren-Honda. In 1993, Senna officially became an ambassador for the Swiss manufacturer, choosing the TAG Heuer S/EL chronograph as his favourite watch, with its distinctive 'S' shaped link bracelet, which over time has become an icon inextricably linked to its name.
Thirty years after his death, Senna's legacy continues to inspire the world of motorsport and watchmaking. TAG Heuer has always supported the Instituto Ayrton Senna, a foundation that has transformed the lives of millions of children and young people in Brazil through access to education.
TAG Heuer x Senna: two new Formula 1 chronographs
The two new chronographs dedicated to Senna differ in both the case material and the movement used.
The model with a 44 mm black DLC-treated grade 2 titanium case represents the boldest and most technological expression of the collection. Equipped with the Calibre 16 automatic mechanical movement (Sellita-based, 28,800 vib/h, 42-hour power reserve), this chronograph combines lightness and resistance.
There are several references to Senna and his unmistakable helmet, such as the chrono hour counter at 6 o'clock, the continuous seconds counter at 9 o'clock with the Senna logo and the chrono minutes counter at 12 o'clock with a yellow hand. Both the name and Senna logo appear on the forged carbon bezel with tachymeter scale. Supplied with a yellow rubber strap with pin buckle and a personalised blue box this chronograph is water-resistant to 20 atmospheres (200 metres). The screw-down case back is engraved with an image of Ayrton Senna.
The Formula 1 Chronograph x Senna with a 43 mm steel case, for its part, is driven by a quartz movement and reinterprets the iconic S/EL bracelet that Senna wore during his career. This signature style from the late 1980s combined ergonomic comfort and sporty elegance, with flowing, interconnected steel links recalling the era of Senna's Formula 1 victories.
Again, there are several references to Senna on the dial black sunray with yellow and green accents. The black bezel with aluminium insert and tachymeter scale is engraved with 'Senna' and the yellow 'S' logo at 12 o'clock. The crown and push-buttons are black DLC-coated, while the case back is engraved with an illustration of Senna in both models. Limited edition of 3,000 piecesthis chronograph is water-resistant to 20 atmospheres.
