Earth Sky Sea Baselworld 2016 Preview Orienteering El Alamein

el-alamein-fronteTerra Cielo Mare, an Italian family-run company that has been producing watches for enthusiasts and collectors since 1999, is presenting a new version of the Orienteering BP at Baselworld: the Orienteering El Alamein, dedicated to the Battle of El Alamein (23 October - 4 November 1942). "Luck was lacking, not valour": these words greet visitors at the El Alamein memorial, which in Arabic means "the two flags", a name that went down in history to denote one of the most famous and well-known battles in which the Italian army took part during the Second World War. The defeat of the Italian-German forces led by the 'fox of the desert', Erwin Rommel, against General Montgomery's British marked the destiny of the North African front. Despite the obvious numerical inferiority and derisory power of the Italian army's tanks against those of the British, worthy of mention was the great heroism of the Italian Ariete armoured division, which was completely destroyed and whose men refused to surrender to the last. A legendary feat, therefore, to which Terra Cielo Mare wished to dedicate its new Orienteering El Alamein. With the same technical features as its predecessor, the Orienteering BP worn by Brad Pitt in the colossal World War Z, this latest version features a new sand-coloured dial, almost as if to enhance the ground raised by the Italian army to defend itself to the last on Egyptian soil. The El Alamein Orienteering is a professional instrument for guidance and orientation on land and sea, capable of determining the wearer's position, both in the Northern and Southern Hemisphere, with the help of the sun and the stars, without relying on magnetic compasses or electronic instruments easily influenced by magnetic fields. This operation is made possible both by the dial with a rotating bezel, adjustable thanks to a dedicated screw-down crown at 2 o'clock, which swivels according to the time and indicates North (a patented system), and by the diamond-finished star chart on the blue PVD-finished titanium back, which identifies the North Star or Southern Cross. The 44 mm case in grade 2 titanium, with through screws and PVD treatment, ensures greater lightness and resistance to shocks, as well as to magnetic fields that could compromise the watch's accuracy. The crown for setting the hours, also screwed through, is instead positioned on the left side of the case at 9 o'clock. This feature, which distinguishes the watch as left-handed, makes it more comfortable, preventing the crown from rubbing against the wrist. In the event of any dipping, a red anodised aluminium ring indicates whether the crown has been inadvertently left open. The movement used is mechanical automatic, water resistance is up to 10 atmospheres. This watch is able to withstand
temperatures of over -50 C° and is equipped with scratch-resistant and anti-reflective glass at
high resistance, encasing a strictly Swiss Made movement
equipped with a date display. The El Alamein Orienteering comes with an English leather strap or, upon request, in the Nato version, featuring a military design with
cordura outer lining and Lorica inner lining.
