Urwerk UR-100 SpaceTime

Urwerk's new UR-100 SpaceTime takes us on a journey through time and space. Using typical orbiting satellite hour and minute hands, the UR-100 shows both time (hours and minutes) and space (distance travelled), merging these two concepts in the creation of the brand new UR-100 SpaceTime. In fact, in addition to the typical satellites rotating on themselves and the dial showing the minutes in the lower area, the watch also shows both the distance travelled by the Earth as it rotates on itself and the distance travelled by the Earth as it revolves around the Sun. In essence, the clock shows both the distance travelled by the Earth during its rotation on its axis in 20 minutes (measured at the equator, i.e. 555 km every 20 minutes, indicator at 10) and the distance travelled by the Earth during its orbit around the Sun, again every 20 minutes (i.e. 35,740 km every 20 minutes, indicator at 2). On this subject, Martin Frei, chief designer and co-founder of Urwerk, said: 'For me, watches have a philosophical dimension. They are physical and abstract reproductions of our situation on Earth, with the dial representing the equator, simultaneously in constant motion yet appearing stationary to our eyes'. The steel and titanium case of Urwerk's UR-100 SpaceTime measures 41 x 49.7 mm and is water-resistant to 3 atmospheres. The watch is also available in a black DLC-coated version. Both models pictured are produced in a limited series of 25 pieces. The self-winding mechanical movement guarantees a 48-hour power reserve. The retail price will be indicatively €53,000 including tax.
