Vacheron Constantin presents a new Overseas Tourbillon, the first in the company's history to combine a titanium case and bracelet with a deep red dial.
Vacheron Constantin expands the Overseas collection with a new model featuring a tourbillon device, a grade 5 titanium case and bracelet and a deep red dial. A material in line with the sporty-chic spirit of the collection, titanium is particularly suited to the demands of watchmaking because of its robustness, lightness and the sporty spirit it conveys, as well as being hypoallergenic.
This metal is in fact 30% stronger than steel and weighs half as much. The Geneva-based company introduced titanium in 2009 for some components of the Overseas collection and, 10 years later, for the "Everest" variants developed in collaboration with photographer and explorer Cory Richards. Then, in 2022, a new milestone was reached with the Overseas Tourbillon Skeleton, made entirely of titanium. Two years later, another Overseas Tourbillon model in titanium adopted a blue dial.
The finishing of the deep red dial, with its sunburst satin finish and lacquered flange, enhances the character of this watch, and highlights the one-minute tourbillon device, visible at 6 o'clock. The same attention to aesthetics is evident in the finish of the 42.5 mm diameter grade 5 titanium case. The bracelet features polished link corners and a vertical satin finish, a detail that is also found on the dial. In contrast is the bezel, whose design recalls the Maltese cross, and which has a circular satin finish on a sandblasted ring. This combination accentuates the slim profile of this ultra-flat model, which is 10.39 mm thick.
Suitable for all types of activities due to its lightness and thinness, the Overseas Tourbillon uses an integrated titanium bracelet with a triple folding clasp, equipped with an adjustment system which ensures ideal comfort thanks to an increment of up to 4 mm. The company also supplies two additional rubber straps in dark red and white, equipped with an interchangeable folding buckle in grade 5 titanium and replaceable without the need for tools.
Vacheron Constantin Overseas Tourbillon: Hallmark of Geneva
This titanium Overseas Tourbillon is driven by the IWC-manufactured calibre 2160, mechanical automatic and awarded the Geneva Hallmark.
The watch is driven by the ultra-flat IWC-manufactured automatic calibre 2160 (5.65 mm thick, 31 mm diameter, 18,000 vibrations per hour), which ensures a power reserve of 80 hours and is awarded the Geneva Seal.
This movement, which incorporates the tourbillon device, is equipped with bidirectional winding, guaranteed by a peripheral oscillating weight with a 916/1000 gold segment, giving it optimum performance. This type of construction offers a double advantage: it allows an unobstructed view of the movement and integrates the oscillating mass at the level of the decks, resulting in a significant reduction in thickness.
The calibre is visible from the back side, thanks to the use of a sapphire glass porthole. The dial, with luminescent white gold hands and indices with blue SuperLuminova, is also protected by a sapphire crystal. A soft iron inner ring also provides antimagnetic protection for the movement.
Still on the subject of the 2160 calibre, it is also worth mentioning that the perforated tourbillon cage (in the shape of a Maltese cross) incorporates a peripheral transmission system, eliminating the need for a central pinion. This configuration ensures optimal transmission of energy from the barrel to the balance. With regard to decorations, this calibre also features a circular-grained plate, bridges with hand-chamfered Côtes de Genève decoration, pearlised wheels and chamfered and polished screws. Finally, water resistance is guaranteed up to a pressure of 5 atmospheres.
