Ulysse Nardin is further consolidating its commitment to ocean conservation through its recent partnership with Plastic Odyssey, in a project that aims to reduce the presence of plastic in sea basins. Since its foundation in 1946, the Swiss Maison has forged important ties with the world of the sea and has been actively involved in activities in favour of its preservation.

For example, last May the House launched the first underwater watch made from recycled fishing nets, underlining its commitment to protecting the seas. The Plastic Odyssey ship set sail from the port of Marseille on 1 October to embark on a three-year voyage, travelling 40,000 miles and docking in the 30 countries most affected by plastic pollution. Plastic Odyssey will begin its mission in the coastal cities of the Mediterranean before setting sail for West Africa, Latin America, Asia and, finally, East Africa.

"Although specific systems for plastic recycling exist today, only a few manufacturers have access to the necessary knowledge and the solutions are not widely available or very affordable. Plastic Ocean's challenge is to identify simple and affordable innovations that can be introduced, improved and made freely available to as many people as possible," said Simon Bernard, CEO of Plastic Odyssey.

"Plastic Odyssey has examined and unlocked the problems of plastic pollution in our ocean. Their desire to freely share their inventions and knowledge with the world is proof of great generosity and a genuine desire to protect our planet," added Patrick Pruniaux, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Ulysse Nardin.

This long journey around the world will be manned by a crew of seven deck crew members, seven technical and scientific experts, three journalists and two external guests. On each of the 30 stages, the crew will undertake concrete actions for three weeks in order to launch specific initiatives.
