Farewell to Walter Lange

News came today of the death of Walter Lange, which occurred tonight at the age of 92. He, the great-grandson of founder Ferdinand Adolph Lange, is credited with the return of the name 'Lange Uhren Gmbf, Glashütte' to the Dresden commercial register on 7 December 1990 after almost half a century of obscurity. Sixty days after the fall of the Berlin Wall, Walter Lange had in fact registered the trademark A. Lange & Söhne worldwide, after the East German communist regime had confiscated the company from the family in 1948 and Walter was forced to flee to the West. The rest is history. And a history of fine watchmaking, in the name of excellence.
