At the heart of the Glashütte Original

We visited Glashütte Original with members of L'Orologio Club on 15 and 16 October to take a closer look at the German brand's exciting 2019 novelties and the place where they come to life. These include the Senator Chronometer Tourbillon, the first flying tourbillon with stop and reset seconds, attached to the cage. the brand's first true diver's watch. Or the SeaQ, belonging to the new Spezialist collection, a diver which, starting from an original design of the House dating back to 1969, has evolved into a modern collection, characterised by respectable performance: water resistance to 20 or 30 atmospheres (depending on the model), unidirectional ceramic bezel, screw-down crown and back with threaded ring that in models without visible movement guarantees not only the seal, but also that it closes perfectly with the engraved trident symbol always in the same position. The first meeting of L'Orologio Club members on this occasion was with Glashütte Original production in the company's boutique, where they were able to handle watches from the latest collections. The actual visit to the manufactory, on the other hand, focused on the finishing of the calibres, whose components are manufactured for the 95% in the Saxon factory. Guests were able to observe Glashütte's perlage and ribbon decoration processes at close quarters and verify the result on the finished watches. Also unmissable, as every year, was a tour of the German Watchmaking Museum in Glashütte, where the town's glorious past, ancient history but also the dark years and mass production under communist administration come to life. A visit that is well worth the trip, to understand the strong link between the industry and the region.
