The 2019 edition of the GPHG kicks off

The Foundation of the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève apeerto the registrations for the 19th edition and simultaneously unveiled the composition of the jury, as well as new prizes. It should be noted that the jury, composed of thirty experts from different fields of expertise, is partially renewed every year. In particular, in this 2019 the jury sees the entry of the following new members: Jasem Al Zeraei (influencer, collector/Kuwait), Aldis Hodge (actor, watch designer/USA), Pierre Salanitro (CEO of Salanitro/Switzerland), Jiaxian Su (collector and founder of SJXwatches.com/Singapore), Jessica Yu (founder of Hantang Culture/China) and Pascal Raffy, owner of Maison Bovet, winner in 2018 of the prestigious "Aiguille d'Or" award right at the Grand Prix de l'Horlogerie de Genève. In addition, new prizes are joining the competition. Such as the one named "Iconic Watch Prize", which will be awarded to the best watch from an emblematic collection that has exerted a lasting influence in the history of watchmaking and the watch market for more than 25 years. The Diver's Watch Prize, for its part, will be awarded to the best diver's watch. Two other new awards are the 'Calendar and Astronomy Watch' and the 'Horological Revelation', which will allow the jury to honour the achievements of a young brand. GPGH Director Carine Maillard said: "The mission of the GPHG is to recognise the vitality and creativity of the art of watchmaking in all its diversity. We adapt the list of awards each year based on the trends observed particularly at the most important watch fairs". To participate in the 2019 edition, watchmakers are invited to send in their entries by 21 June 2019. The competition is open to all watch brands, Swiss and non-Swiss. The list of models pre-selected by the jury will be announced on 2 September, while the list of winners will be revealed on Thursday, 7 November, during the awards ceremony of the 19th GPGH, which will be held at the Théâtre du Léman in Geneva.
