In the wake of the launch of its "Risk is the Reward" campaign, Corum brings the concept of daring innovation into its watchmaking production with the new LAB 02. Defying all the rules of watchmaking, this watch is fitted with an unprecedented movement that took two years of research and development. Revolutionary in design, the new calibre is equipped with a flying gear and numerous other gears that the brand is using for the first time. The highly complex hand-wound mechanical movement stretches the limits of imagination and the technical constraints of watchmaking. At the beginning of its creation, the Corum development team set out to design not only a flying tourbillon, but also a flying gear system. The team of experts posed the question: "What would happen if the movement did not rest on any bridge?" The CO 300 calibre consists of 416 meticulously skeletonised and carefully finished individual components. Each piece is assembled by hand, with a flying tourbillon at 6 o'clock, flying wheels driven to the rhythm of the hours, minutes and seconds, and the bridge attached directly to the plate. A real technical challenge was also the construction of a movement that is not inserted between the plate and the bridge. The design of the LAB 02 required a much longer axis for the gear train and, without an upper bridge, it needed ball bearings instead of rubies on the mainplate to give it greater strength and stability. The single plate was also extensively skeletonised. The entire movement was then placed on a transparent sapphire plate, which allows optimal visibility and gives the impression that the elements are floating in weightlessness. Only 10 movements are planned for this model and each piece will therefore be unique. Corum's LAB 02 (with a case available in 45 mm pink or white gold) also features a large date function at 4 o'clock and a power-reserve indicator (55 hours) unusually positioned to be visible from the side of the case at 8 o'clock through a sapphire crystal. Each LAB 02 is customisable: you can choose the colour of the gold, the size and sertissage of the diamonds, as well as the coloured gemstones. The first price of the watch, in gold without diamonds, is 180,000 euros.
