Cuervo y Sobrinos - Pirate watches: Blackbeard model

Since its launch in 2008, the Pirate by Cuervo y Sobrinos has been strongly characterised by its modular case, composed of elements made of several metals. This year, the Cuban brand's homage to the figure of the pirate (there is a clear link between the origin of the House and the legendary freebooters of the seas) goes to "discomfort" none other than one of the most famous pirates, the terrible Blackbeard, nickname of the Englishman Edward Teach, who controlled the Caribbean Sea during a brief period in the 18th century, in the golden age of piracy.

The Cuervo y Sobrinos signature Blackbeard Pirate thus stands out with its 45-millimetre case with an all-black look (except for the titanium rings that fit into the case middle on the dial side and on the back side, embracing the push-buttons/crown assembly). The various parts, in bronze, steel and titanium, are all treated with a DLC (Diamond like Carbon) coating, which increases their resistance and hardness, as well as enhancing their aggressive and virile appearance. A clear reference to the naval world, the winding crown and lugs feature details taken from the cannon mouths of sailing ships.

The indications on the black dial are crowded: at 12 o'clock are the chrono minutes with the day of the week and month windows in the centre; at 6 o'clock are the chrono hours with the moon phases; at 9 o'clock are the continuous seconds. The date display with hands is instead affixed to the flange. The movement is an automatic ETA-Valjoux 7751 calibre.
