Behind the latest model presented today by Czapek & Cie, the Antarctique, as Xavier de Roquemaurel, CEO of the watchmaker, says, there are suggestions from enthusiasts and others: "The message we received from our friends, fans and shareholders was clear: they wanted a watch that radiates class, but at the same time can be admired and worn every day... Even to the ends of the earth. The Antarctique is a three-hand model with a 40.5 mm case, slim enough to fit comfortably under a wristband. The transparent case back reveals the 30 mm automatic SXH5.01 calibre, exclusively made by the concepteur by Czapek Daniel Martínez. Great attention was paid to both performance and appearance, so that the movement parts were arranged in such a way as to preserve visual harmony and transparency. At the base is a free-sprung balance with variable inertia (produced by four masselottes in gold), which allows for maximum precision for a mechanical watch. The micro-rotor was made in La Chaux-de-Fonds in a special 'entirely recycled' 18-carat gold and supplied by AGOSI. The watch has a power reserve of at least 56 hours, a mechanical feat for a micro-rotor. Both case and bracelet are made of steel and water resistance is guaranteed up to 120 metres. The Antarctique is available in several versions. The one called Terre Adélie will be produced in a limited edition of 99. It is a tribute to the French explorer Jules Dumont d'Urville who, during his expedition to the continent in 1840, named an Antarctic island after his wife Adèle. It is available with a dial in four different colours, namely Deep Blue, Secret Alloy, Black Ink and Burgundy. The Orion Nebula, on the other hand, is a special edition with a hand-painted dial, which will be produced in only 10 pieces. Other versions, as well as a new women's model, are planned for autumn 2020. Finally, the timepiece is equipped with an exclusive quick-change system, which is why an additional strap is provided: the customer can choose between a soft and elegant leather strap or a more sporty-looking rubber strap.
