Eberhard & Co is sponsoring the 100th edition of the Targa Florio, a Sicilian automobile competition dedicated to vintage cars: the protagonists will be the most beautiful racing cars, built between 1906 and 1970, together with current rally cars. As Official Timekeeper of the event, scheduled to take place from 5 to 8 May along the roads of the Madonie Mountains and beyond, the watchmaker will be present with a special chronograph specially created for the competitors in the race, one for each crew. Champion V Targa Florio, this is the name of the celebratory model, is powered by a self-winding mechanical movement and has two counters, one for the minutes and one for the hours. The dial of the Targa Florio special edition is personalised with the 100th edition logo and recalls the details of the car races in its style and colours. Guaranteed water-resistant to 5 atmospheres of pressure, it has a steel case measuring 42.80 millimetres, with a convex sapphire crystal, a case back secured by six screws enriched with polished and satin-finished finishes, a steel bezel with a circular aluminium insert subjected to an "eloxage" treatment, and a leather strap with a personalised "E&Co." buckle. In addition to the participants of the race, some Champion V Targa Florios will be awarded to selected personalities who have accepted the invitation to be present on the anniversary. "We are happy to celebrate with the Targa Florio 100 glorious editions," says Mario Peserico - CEO of Eberhard Italia. "The perfect binomial between the world of vintage cars and our watches is traditionally represented by the Tazio Nuvolari collection; in this case, precisely because of the exceptional nature of the event, we have decided to do something special and to match the race with a different, sportier model with the evocative name Champion V, dedicating it to all those champions of the past, present and future who will take part in the race".
