Girard-Perregaux-1966 Blue Moon

The Swiss watchmaker presents a contemporary reinterpretation of one of its classics, where a sober and dynamic style is combined with useful functions such as the date and moon phases. The inspiration for the dial colour comes from the exosphere, the outermost layer of the Earth's atmosphere, where its blackness almost blurs into interplanetary space. As if on the edge of the void, black predominates in this revisited classic. The case in micro-bead-blasted, black DLC-treated steel, combined with the integrated matt black rubber-effect alligator bracelet, sublimated by elegant blue stitching, are emblematic of the night. Deep blue also characterises the delicately domed dial. Unmistakable with its interplay of blue and black tones, this watch is now sporting a whole new face. Hours, minutes, central seconds, a date indicator with a hand at 6 o'clock embellished with a touch of red on the 31st day, to make it easier to read and adjust, as well as the moon phase display, in the centre of the date display, of timeless elegance: these are the hallmarks of the 1966 Blue Moon, a watch that reveals the changing faces of the nocturnal star throughout the year. The time is marked by domed leaf hands and baton hour markers, creating an ensemble with contemporary dimensions (40 mm), without abandoning ephemeral trends. From the design to the hand finishing of the details, the 1966 Blue Moon is the object of meticulous attention. In keeping with its long tradition, the Girard-Perregaux Manufacture has chosen to use on this model the GP3300-0115 calibre, characterised by its proven reliability, with its 276 components and six different finishes crafted by master watchmakers. The meticulously circular-grained, anglage-finished, engraved and mirror-polished plate and bridges, the blued screws and the oscillating weight decorated with Côtes de Genève can be glimpsed through the metallised anti-reflective sapphire crystal back. The 1966 Blue Moon boasts a power reserve of at least 46 hours and is water-resistant to 3 atmospheres, equivalent to a depth of 30 metres.
