Glashütte Original: German Watchmaking

On 25 and 26 October, L'Orologio Club members crossed the threshold of the Glashütte Original manufacture, witnessing first-hand the birth of the watches, from the design phase to final assembly. The tour began with a visit to the boutique in Dresden, which displays the entire collection of the House, including the novelties presented at Basel 2017 such as the Senator Panorama Datum chronograph, the Senator Excellence Perpetual Calendar and the Senator Excellence in white or black dial versions. The second day of the visit was entirely dedicated to the Glashütte watch manufacture and museum. The large factory building is structured on several floors: from the ground level, where the tools used to forge gears and components are made, to the top floor where the final assembly takes place. The manufacture is also home to a watchmaking school from which tomorrow's technicians will emerge. After the visit, a specialist technician explained to the members how the 'swan neck' is finished with mirror polish and anglage and how the screws are blued, two distinctive elements of the brand.
