Despite the link between IWC and the automotive world, the brand had never yet made a Pilot's Watch that could be described as a racing chronograph. Until now, though. Because the brand has created two new models dedicated to its famous partners Mercedes-AMG and the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, which are clearly defined by elements reminiscent of the world of motorsport, such as the tachymeter scale on the bezel.
The Pilot's Watch Performance Chronograph 41 comes in four variants, each focusing on two distinct materials: titanium and Ceratanium. Developed by IWC, Ceratanium combines the lightness and structural integrity of titanium with a hardness and scratch-resistance comparable to that of ceramic.
If the titanium versions (grade 5) are dedicated to the partnership with AMG, the sports division of Mercedes-Benz, those in Ceratanium are made for the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 team.
Apart from a few construction details, the technical specifications are the same. Starting with the black ceramic bezels, through to the movement, the IWC-manufactured 69385 automatic calibre, with a 46-hour power reserve and column-wheel chrono functions.
All models feature black dials with a polished finish, black hands and recessed counters. Applied indexes and numerals with SuperLuminova ensure excellent readability even in low light conditions.
The watches can be fitted with titanium or Ceratanium bracelets or rubber straps. The new Pilot's Watch Performance Chronograph 41 are featured in an exclusive campaign starring seven-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton and his team-mate George Russell.
