Grand Seiko: an important anniversary

Grand Seiko celebrates its 60th anniversary with four special limited editions. These new creations feature dials in the Japanese brand's signature blue colour. A first self-winding men's watch, Ref. SBGH281, pays tribute to the 44GS of 1967, whose design was the first expression of the brand's style. It is equipped with the high-frequency 9S85 calibre offering an accuracy of +5 to -3 seconds per day and a 55-hour power reserve. In honour of the 60th anniversary, the Grand Seiko logo is in gold and the seconds hand is a deep red. A second model, again automatic but for women, Ref. STGK015, is powered by Calibre 9S27, specially designed for the company's women's collection, with an accuracy of +8 to -3 seconds per day and a 50-hour power reserve. It features a blue mother-of-pearl dial, diamonds for the hour markers, and a bezel set with 45 diamonds. Both creations are available in limited editions: 1,500 pieces for the men's watch and 300 for the ladies'. The company's 60th anniversary is also celebrated with a new quartz movement: Calibre 9F85, with an hour adjustment function that allows the hour hand to be adjusted without stopping the seconds hand, thus preserving its high precision. This new calibre makes its debut in two models, one of which, Ref. SBGP007, features a version of Calibre 9F85 specially adapted to an accuracy level of ± 5 seconds per year. The dial is decorated with a special motif, reminding the wearer of the anniversary year. The thin bezel leaves space for the dial, which is thus wider and thus more readable. The timepiece is a limited edition of 2,500 pieces. The second watch with the new quartz calibre, Ref. SBGP015, belongs to the Sport Collection. In addition to the blue dial, it features a scratch-resistant ceramic bezel in the same colour. The hour markers and hour and minute hands are coated with LumiBrite to increase legibility even in low-light conditions. It has a water resistance of 20 atmospheres, a magnetic resistance of 16,000 A/m and a screw-down crown. It will be available from May 2020 in a limited edition of 2,000 pieces.
