The starry sky of Baume & Mercier

Charme to spare for two of Baume & Mercier's steel-cased creations: a perfect couple's gift, consisting of a Clifton Baumatic, dedicated to the male universe, and a Classima, for women. What they have in common is the presence of the moon on the dial. On the former, the moon phases are set against the backdrop of a starry sky appearing at 6 o'clock, accompanied by the date display and contrasted with the day of the week at 12 o'clock. On the latter, the nocturnal star is positioned at 12 o'clock and embellished with silvered stars against a blue sky background, which enliven the dial along with eight diamonds in place of the hourmarkers (except for the Roman numeral quarters). Both models feature an interchangeable blue alligator strap. Naturally, the movements are different: the Clifton houses the Baumatic manufacture calibre BM14, a mechanical self-winding movement with new day-date and moon phase modules; the Classima is equipped with a quartz movement, calibre Ronda 788. To make each watch unique, Baume & Mercier offers the option of engraving the case back with a personalised message (free engraving at www.baume-et-mercier.com). Prices: Clifton Baumatic, €4,300; Classima, €1,750.
