The science of materials according to Panerai

Panerai introduces an unprecedented high-tech basalt fibre-based composite with extraordinary physical and mechanical properties: it is Fibratech, lighter than 60% compared to steel and highly resistant to corrosion processes. The first futuristic use of this material, which has an uneven matt grey appearance, is the Luminor Marina Fibratech (PAM01663). It is used both for the case, 44 millimetres in diameter, and for the Safety Lock crown-protecting device; it is complemented by the presence of Carbotech, another composite introduced by the brand, and used here for the bezel, crown and lever. On the mechanical side, the new Luminor Marina adopts the IWC-manufactured P.9010 calibre, a self-winding mechanical movement just 6 millimetres thick, equipped with a rapid time adjustment function linked to date modification and distinguished by a 3-day power reserve ensured by the efficiency of a double barrel. Water-resistant to a depth of 300 metres, it is fitted with a Sportech strap, a water-resistant rubber-effect fabric, blue with white stitching, with a trapezoidal pin buckle in titanium with black DLC coating. A second blue rubber strap completes the outfit along with a special screwdriver for removing the buckle.
