Louis Erard: uniqueness within everyone's reach

A limited edition of 99 pieces for the Excellence Émail Grand Feu, a watch that marks Louis Erard's debut on the art craft scene. The star of this new creation is the dial, which has been hand-crafted by superimposing several layers of enamel on its surface and placing it in an oven at 800°C (hence the name "Grand Feu"). For its creation, the House entrusted to the Donzé Cadrans atelier in Le Locle, part of the Ulysse Nardin manufacture and a reference name for some of the most prestigious brands in the sector. The result is a beautiful cream-coloured dial, traversed by blued hour markers and hands and a small seconds display at 6 o'clock. All enclosed in a 42-millimetre polished steel case, fastened to the wrist by a coffee-coloured calfskin strap. The movement is mechanical with automatic winding, Sellita calibre SW261-1, visible through the opening in the case back. The real particularity of this model is its price of 3,900 Swiss francs, decidedly affordable for a watch with this type of workmanship, a factor that usually drives up its cost. The reasons for this type of choice are to be found, as explained to us by the company, in the desire to reduce profit margins, in the very limited production (around fifteen pieces per month), which facilitates sales by limiting stock levels, and in the use of components already used on other models despite the fact that each new watch enjoys its own development and identity.
