An automatic, antimagnetic, water-resistant watch: in the 1930s the story of the Multifort began, the collection around which Mido built its brand image, laying the foundations of what would become its modern production. Continuing to tell its story through its evolution over the years, the company is reintroducing a new model straight from the past.
In particular, we are talking about the 1970s, when the so-called TV-shaped speakers were in fashion: an almost square rectangle with rounded corners. This shape echoed those of televisions of the time and was adopted at that time by many brands, including Mido which first introduced it in 1973 (later also in the 1980s and at the beginning of the new millennium in some models).
Fifty years later, the company is back on the theme and reintroduces the television-shaped case in the new Multifort Big Date, a watch with a vintage feel but a thoroughly modern functionality and construction. Forged in steel, the case (40 x 39.2 mm in size) is shaped on a flat, square satin-finished bezel. The crown is screw-down and protected by side straps.
The large dégradé-effect dial that fades from blue to black outwards and is horizontally brushed offers facetted, diamond-cut hands and trapezoidal hour markers at 3, 6 and 9 o'clock, alternating with round ones with white SuperLuminova with blue-green luminescence in the dark. At 12 o'clock is the large date display that makes its debut in the Multifort collection.
The case back serves as a showcase for the self-winding Calibre 80, sspecially developed by ETA according to the requirements of Mido. Thanks to a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and the latest-generation Nivachron balance spring, a material that significantly reduces the effect of magnetic fields and guarantees excellent shock resistance, the movement offers attractive chronometric performance and a comfortable 80-hour power reserve. The oscillating weight is decorated with côtes de Genève and the Mido logo.
Among other features, the Multifort TV Big Date is water-resistant to 100 metres and comes with a satin-finished steel bracelet with polished central links. Mido It also offers it with a green or black dial, both shaded, all priced at €1,140, offering a decidedly affordable alternative to the sporty/chic style that is now so much in vogue. Also in the catalogue are two sportier versions with a navy blue or orange rubber strap, on sale for €1,110.
