Odysseus, the new Lange watch, is born

After Lange 1, Saxonia, 1815, Richard Lange and Zeitwerk now debuts Odysseus, the sixth watch family from A. Lange & Söhne and the company's first long-awaited steel sports watch, featuring not only an original design but also a newly developed movement. The steel case, 40.5 millimetres in diameter, combines satin-finished surfaces and angled edges that are also found on the lugs and bracelet links. On the dark blue brass dial, made in several layers, the Lange Big Date at 3 o'clock and the day of the week display at 9 o'clock stand out in the classic double window. The applied white gold indices, like the small seconds scale, are surrounded by concentric lines that create a contrast with the irregularly structured matt inner surfaces of the main and subdials. The silver-coloured flange features a printed minute track with the number 60 in red at 12 o'clock, adding a subtle note of colour. The steel bracelet offers a high level of comfort and, thanks to the folding clasp, its length can be precisely adjusted by up to seven millimetres. The length of the bracelet can be adjusted without having to open the clasp by pressing the button with the Lange inscription or by adding or removing individual links. The movement used is the new IWC-manufactured L155.1 Datomatic calibre, a name that synthesises the combination of the date mechanism and automatic winding. With a diameter of 32.9 millimetres, the movement is visible through the sapphire glass back. It is equipped with a unidirectional central winding rotor with a platinum oscillating weight, provides a power reserve of up to 50 hours and operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz). All components of the new calibre are made of nickel silver, while the rotor elements are black rhodium-plated. Odysseus is also the first Lange watch equipped with a water-resistant case with screw-down crown, tested at a pressure of 12 atmospheres. Price: 28,700 euros.
