Omega Seamaster 'Venice Edition

Seamaster Edizione Venezia_2Omega has unveiled the new Seamaster 'Venice Edition' which will be sold exclusively in the famous Venetian city. The decision to make a watch in homage to Venice is no coincidence: in fact, in the late 1950s, the city was a source of inspiration for one of Omega's most famous symbols. At the time, the Seamaster collection was relatively new and perfectly represented the brand's diving history. All that was needed was an emblem that was unique and the answer was found by a member of Omega's design department who had already designed the iconic medallion with the observatory that the brand used for its Constellation models. During a visit to Venice, in fact, his imagination was captured by the famous gondolas and the magnificent hippocampi of Neptune carved on both sides. For the Swiss watchmaker, the city of Venice is a meeting point of culture, history and elegance, characteristics that perfectly match the Seamaster collection. Just like Omega's historical heritage, Venice represents the place from where many explorers of the oceans began their voyages. After seeing the refined craftsmanship of the hippocampus, the designer was therefore certain he had found the symbol for the Seamaster collection, a symbol that started appearing on watches from 1957 onwards. Today, through this new collection, the Bienne-based company pays tribute to the history and the city of Venice. The domed opaline silver dial of each model takes its inspiration from the vaulted ceilings of Venetian architecture and features 12 applied hour markers and leaf-shaped hands. The spherical crown is also inspired by Venice, recalling the shape of St. Mark's Basilica, and gives the watch a timeless, classic look. The case back is one of the distinctive features of these timepieces. The famous medallion with the hippocampus has been laser-engraved on the sapphire crystal, while on the inner ring we find the inscriptions 'Seamaster' and 'Edizione Venezia', together with a pattern closely resembling the intricate details of the flag of Venice. Two versions of the Seamaster 'Edizione Venezia' are available, one with an 18-carat Sedna gold case and a brown leather strap, and one in steel with a black leather strap. Both are sold in a special black lacquered and burgundy velour-lined case, reminiscent of the interiors of Venetian gondolas. Thanks to the Omega Master Chronometer calibre, synonymous with precision, and a design that encapsulates all the company's history, the two new models will attract collectors from all over the world. Both watches will be on sale exclusively at the Omega boutique in Venice, located at Salita S. Moise, 1290 and at T Fondaco dei Tedeschi by DFS.
