Oris presents the new Oris x Momotaro model, a special edition watch created in partnership with Momotaro Jeans, the dynamic Japanese manufacturer of high-end jeans worn by style leaders in Asia and around the world. The new steel and bronze watch, based on the iconic Oris Divers Sixty-Five, features a Momotaro indigo denim strap with two white 'battle stripes', the brand's symbol. Momotaro owes its name to a Japanese cultural hero and was launched in 2006 by Hisao Manabe, who founded a textile company in 1992 with only three employed in the small coastal town of Kojima in Okayama. From the beginning, Manabe's vision was clear: no compromise on quality. For his denim, he would use only premium quality long staple cotton with careful dyeing of the fibres in indigo to achieve the best possible shade. His workshops used vintage shuttle looms to ensure a handcrafted weave and every detail was sewn by hand. Manabe's aim was to define a new world standard for denim. Almost 30 years later, the company employs 140 people in factories, shops and offices in Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and Okayama. Once in crisis, Okayama is now a denim capital, full of companies that sprung up in the wake of Manabe's activities. Today, Momotaro is known for its mantra: 'Handmade without compromise'. It is the perfect partnership for Oris. The independent Swiss brand combines precision manufacturing and traditional craftsmanship to create excellent timepieces. Oris x Momotaro therefore celebrates this shared vision.
