Paul Picot Megarotor GMT Champlevé 'The Dragon'

Paul Picot recently unveiled a new version of the Megarotor GMT on the Chinese and Hong Kong markets, with a Champlevé enamel dial. An aggressive and colourful dragon image appears in the centre of the dial, the place of the classic globe design. The gold or solid silver dial is decorated with the Champlevé enamel technique, made even more exhilarating by the fine art of Flinqué engraving beneath the layer of transparent enamel. The dial of the new Paul Picot Megarotor GMT Dragon is thus masterfully crafted through the use of refined and ancestral techniques. In particular, small alveoli are created by means of champlevé, which subsequently contain the coloured and transparent enamel. The underlying flinqué enhances the coloured reflections. At the end of the process, the dial is covered with enamel. After the enamel is carefully prepared to achieve the desired colour tones, it is fired at a temperature of 850°C. This complex enamelling process adorns the dial with a multitude of colours and reflections of infinite shades and gradations. The image, once reduced to scale, is divided into sectors and at this point the colours are defined, which in turn are obtained by mixing various powders. In the engraving area, a large number of small knives and tools are used, each to give subtle reflections and decorations. This is a very delicate operation performed even with tolerances of a few tenths of a millimetre. The Megarotor GMT Champlevé Dragon is produced in a limited series of 88 in a pink gold case and 300 in steel, in the latter case with a dial available in black, blue and ivory.
