Roger Dubuis Excalibur Knights of the Round Table III

2141-rdb-table-ronde-3-4-2With the Excalibur Knights of the Round Table III hyperwatch, Roger Dubuis offers a new interpretation of the Excalibur line inspired by King Arthur's invincible sword, which according to legend was forged on the British island of Avalon. A combination of breakthrough materials, daring workmanship and sophisticated watchmaking complications gives life to three-dimensional miniatures of pink gold knights arranged around a round blue enamel table. The Excalibur collection is the symbol par excellence of the innate audacity of Roger Dubuis, whose great inventiveness is expressed through the use of materials never before employed in watchmaking, as well as through the continuous development of new avant-garde calibres. Innovation and the use of original technologies hold no secrets for the Geneva-based Manufacture, which boasts integrated production from project development within its Research and Development department. Following the successful launch of the Excalibur Knights of the Round Table I and II, Roger Dubuis once again demonstrates its ability to disrupt conventions and traditions by offering an avant-garde and contemporary interpretation of watchmaking icons. When an ancient legend meets a 21st century art form. Juxtaposing an extraordinary legend with a technical challenge and a contemporary artistic approach, the Excalibur Knights of the Round Table III embodies Roger Dubuis' independent attitude, which drives him to accept even the most unthinkable challenges. Low poly, originally used to create 3D models and scenes for video games, is a technique in which polygonal surfaces are juxtaposed to create sculptures or paintings. Its popularity is on the rise due to the speed at which figures can be realised by using a low number of polygons. The use of this art form for the creation of 12 new, expressive three-dimensional pink gold knights - here serving as hour markers - testifies to the unparalleled creativity and dynamism of Roger Dubuis' craftsmen, who are faithful to the use of "breakthrough materials and avant-garde complications". Each knight, defined in every detail with low poly and finished by hand to appear in all its strength, has been entirely redesigned so that each one points its sword at the Arthurian-inspired round table sculpted from blocks of blue enamel, a process requiring considerable skill and many hours of meticulous craftsmanship. Even the creation of the dial - framed by an imposing 45 mm Excalibur case with a solid case back, fluted 18-carat gold bezel and matching crown - requires more than 45 hours of work. This extraordinary timepiece is further enhanced by the combination with a blue alligator strap. Guaranteeing precision and reliability, the automatic RD 821 calibre - an exclusive Roger Dubuis manufacture movement - drives the hours and minutes functions and guarantees a 48-hour power reserve. Like the knights, all the details of the movement are hand-finished according to the traditional criteria of the prestigious Hallmark of Geneva. The avant-garde Excalibur Knights of the Round Table III is proof of the imperishable character of the Arthurian legends, which Roger Dubuis has helped make immortal through his spectacular reinterpretations. In line with the Maison's motto extolling the value of rarity ("dare to be rare"), this exclusive creation will be produced in a limited edition of just 28 pieces.
