TAG Heuer x Fragment Design Heuer 02

TAG Heuer presents its second collaboration with streetwear guru, Hiroshi Fujiwara: this is a highly original watch design driven by the Heuer 02 manufacture movement. Building on the great success of the first creation with the Japanese designer and his Fragment Design brand in 2018, the latest collaboration has resulted in a chronograph produced in a limited edition of just 500 pieces, bold yet minimalist, a pure reflection of TAG Heuer's automotive heritage and original design principles, such as the ceramic bezel and fiery red sapphire case back. Hiroshi Fujiwara is the founder of Fragment Design, a transversal brand founded in 2003. Since then, the Japanese designer has collaborated with some of the most important and renowned names in fashion, design and art. Fujiwara is a legendary figure, celebrated both in his native Japan and around the world for his unique approach to hip-hop streetwear. In addition to his legacy in fashion, Fujiwara is also known for his impact on mainstream culture, music and disruptive design. The latest collaboration between the two brands resulted in an interesting reinterpretation of the racing-inspired models produced by TAG Heuer in the 1960s and 1970s - a form of casework that can also be found in TAG Heuer's current collections. On this subject, Hiroshi Fujiwara said: "Redesigning this TAG Heuer chronograph gave me the opportunity to use an existing heritage to create a new one. I gave the design a modern and exceptional touch with the red case back, which reflects one of the brand's logo colours and gives it a completely new and evolved character." In this chronograph, Fujiwara reduces the architecture to the essentials, emphasising the iconic tachymeter scale on the bezel and 'erasing' any tinsel from the dial. The black opaline dial features two counters at 3 and 9 o'clock. The black contrasts with the white lettering and logos - including that of Fragment between 4 and 5 o'clock - and the date window at 6 o'clock. The only counterpoints to the high-contrast composition are the red indices and the red lacquered central hand. The result is a timepiece with a bold and elegant 44 mm steel case that is extremely easy to read. The automatic column-wheel movement has an 80-hour power reserve, the red sapphire crystal case back features the unmistakable Fragment Design logo and each watch is engraved with a serial number from 1 to 500. Price: 5,800 euros.
