Always fascinated by contrasts, Italo Fontana (owner of U-Boat) combines the bronze of the 46 mm case, with its worn appearance emphasised by natural oxidation, with ceramic, which is used for the ring of the unidirectional rotating bezel. Ceramic, widely used in the aerospace industry, boasts extremely high heat resistance and keeps its colour vivid and unchanged over time, even after long exposure to ultraviolet rays. The watch uses the iconic U-Boat crown, with its patented protection device, on its left side, as well as a plaque engraved with the serial number. The case back, made of antiqued bronze and subjected to a special anti-corrosion treatment, is screwed down. A sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment protects the black dial, which houses luminous beige hands and hour-markers, as well as an additional 24-hour counter at 4 o'clock and a date display at 9 o'clock. The Sommerso Bronze uses a Swiss Made automatic mechanical movement (28,800 vibrations per hour, 26 jewels, 44-hour power reserve), customised to U-Boat specifications, and is water-resistant to a pressure of 30 atmospheres. The dark brown leather strap (aged by a natural process and entirely handmade) is combined with a bronze buckle that has undergone a special anti-corrosion treatment.
