Porsche Design - Monobloc Actuator Collection

Porsche Design's successful collaboration with Porsche Motorsport continues. As Official Timing Partner of the Porsche Motorsport GT Team, Porsche Design presents two new versions of the innovative Monobloc Actuator. The first version is the Monobloc Actuator Chronotimer Flyback Limited Edition (251 units), a direct correlation to the 251 cm wheelbase of the Porsche 911 RSR car. Both technically and visually, this chronograph reflects a close connection to the world of motorsport. The matt black carbon dial, inspired by the GT Team's racing car components, echoes its colour composition: black, red, grey and white. In addition, the function display at 9 o'clock reflects the characteristic red and white border design. The technology for the chronograph function is derived from the high-performance engine concept of the Porsche 911 RSR. The second version is the new Porsche Design Monobloc Actuator 24H-Chronotimer All Black. This watch is equipped with a newly developed titanium bracelet, coated with black titanium carbide. In addition, the new titanium folding clasp with micrometric adjustment allows optimal adjustment. With the introduction of the Monobloc Actuator Collection in 2017, Porsche Design incorporated a highly innovative and completely new watch concept. To develop this new technology, the watchmakers from Porsche Design Timepieces AG in Solothurn (Switzerland) collaborated with designers from Studio F. A. Porsche in Zell am See (Austria) and engineers from the Porsche Development Centre in Weissach (Germany). The line offers a revolutionary new approach to operating a chronograph. The engine of the Porsche 911 RSR racing car, a prime example of track performance, inspired this innovative mechanism. Instead of using the two standard pushers on the side of the case to activate the chronograph functions, as in a conventional chronograph, the Monobloc Actuator's chronograph functions are set in motion by a single push on the balance integrated into the case. Analogous to the mechanisms used in the high-performance engine of the Porsche RSR 911, the processes adapted to the watch guarantee absolute precision, reliability and tightness during operation. This means that the chronometer function of this chronograph is operational under water, up to a pressure of 10 atmospheres. The Werk calibre 01.200, introduced by Porsche Design in 2017, acts as the 'hi-tech engine' in the 45.5 mm titanium case. This calibre, whose excellent level of precision is guaranteed by a COSC certificate, is equipped with a flyback mechanism. In racing, this complex additional function is crucial, as it allows the measurement of successive intervals, such as lap times or pit stops. Beating at 4 Hz, the automatic movement is the result of the brand's engineering, watchmaking expertise and the transfer of intelligent technology from the development of racing cars. Manufactured using state-of-the-art production methods, it guarantees reliability and precision every second. The barrel bridge of the skeleton movement implements Porsche's lightweight materials construction philosophy, while offering a clear view of the flyback function and gear train. The PVD-coated winding rotor optimises energy through a tungsten mass and is visible through the sapphire crystal. Although difficult to work with, tungsten provides the necessary weight to ensure powerful charging. Every component of the Porsche 911 RSR racing car - from form to function - stems from the overall sophistication realised by Porsche during design and development. This philosophy is equally true of the Limited Edition Monobloc Actuator Chronotimer Flyback, for which Porsche Design has developed a new rubber strap with an Alcantara inlay. This technical material, also used inside the 911 RSR, offers a secure grip, even with high lateral acceleration. The stabilising properties transferred to the strap ensure maximum comfort, thanks to the LaserFlex structure. The strap is equipped with a titanium safety buckle and is an attractive option compared to metal bracelets. The innovative combination of design, functionality and technology is reflected in the LaserFlex strap. Porsche Design has been an innovator and used titanium since 1980, and the new Monobloc Actuator 24H-Chronotimer is no exception. Used for the first time in a state-of-the-art 45.5-mm titanium case, which is pressure-resistant to 10 ATM, its black titanium carbide coating makes the watch both sporty and durable. The case encloses a matt black dial with a running indicator at 9 o'clock, central chronograph seconds, a 30-minute counter at 12 o'clock and a 12-hour counter at 6 o'clock. A date window is integrated at 4 o'clock. The tachymeter scale on the outer edge of the dial allows the wearer to calculate average speed. The 24-hour display is shown on the bezel. As the watch movement, the Swiss ETA-Valjoux calibre 7754 automatic beats at 4 Hz, accumulating a 48-hour power reserve. Its customised rotor highlights the Porsche Design icon, as both can be admired through the sapphire crystal in the case back.
