Recycled steel from Panatere

A Swiss company headquartered in Saignelégier, Panatere specialises in the recovery and transformation of raw materials used by the watch and medical industries - mainly steel scraps used in the production of watch and medical components - into 100% recycled steel that can be reused at the end of its life cycle. This process reduces the carbon footprint, an indicator measuring the impact of human activities on the environment and in particular the global climate, by ten times compared to a standard process. The company, which recently joined Circular Economy Switzerland (a coordination and exchange platform open to initiatives in the field of the Swiss circular economy), is also working on the construction of a regional industrial solar furnace as a public good available to other industries. Such a furnace would reduce the carbon footprint for steel production by 165 times compared to standard production.
