Blancpain's ability to design and manufacture its own movements grants it absolute creative freedom. It is thanks to this expertise and its tradition, of which innovation is an important part, that the new calibre was born, a perpetual calendar with large moon phases and small seconds display, endowed with a power reserve of no less than 8 days. The new automatic calibre 5939A comprises 379 components, encased in a thickness of 7.25 mm and a diameter of 32 mm. Obviously, as it is a perpetual calendar, it takes into account the different lengths of the months and leap years - characteristics of the complex Gregorian calendar - and does not provide for any adjustments until the year 2100. On the dial, the same calibre allows the day, date, month and moon phase display to be altered at any time, without the risk of damage. The 42 mm-diameter case has four corrector pushers located under the lugs (Blancpain patent). These correctors, which are invisible when wearing the watch, allow one to appreciate the rigorous lines of the case, with its double-curved bezel. Practical and discreet, they allow the dates and moon phases to be adjusted with the tips of the fingers, without the need for special tools. The sapphire back reveals to the eye the highly accurate finishing of the movement and the oscillating weight decorated with honeycomb. In full compliance with the Maison's aesthetic codes, the white dial is made of grand feu enamel - a very delicate decorative technique that requires multiple passages in an oven at very high temperatures. For better legibility and greater clarity, the dial has large painted hour markers and blued steel hands. Blancpain's Villeret Quantième Perpétuel is available in 18-carat red gold, with a chocolate-coloured alligator leather strap or a thousand-link bracelet. There is also a limited and numbered edition in platinum. This new Blancpain perpetual calendar is housed in a rotating case that allows the watch to be wound when not being worn. The ingenious solid wood case transforms into a cigar humidor when the inner lining is removed.
