F.P. Journe - The 20th anniversary of the Chronomètre à Resonance

In the wake of the scientific observations of Christiaan Huygens in the 17th century and of the two watchmakers Antide Janvier and Abraham-Louis Breguet, who in the 18th century made double-pendulum regulators that functioned with the system of resonance, François-Paul Journe has since then been the only watchmaker to make wristwatches that function with the contribution of acoustic resonance. In 2000, François-Paul Journe presented his first model 'à Résonance', a phenomenon previously known by the name of double pendulum or double balance, which he called Résonance and whose trademark he registered. The Chronomètre à Résonance F.P.Journe is the only wristwatch in the world to use the natural physical phenomenon of resonance without a mechanical link between the two regulators. The two balance wheels thus support each other, giving more inertia to their movement. However, this arrangement is only possible if the difference in frequency between one and the other does not exceed five seconds per day accumulated over six positions. This iconic watch, a hallmark of F.P. Journe's watchmaking research into precision, was awarded a prize in 2010 at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie in Geneva in the "Montre à Grande Complication" category. François-Paul Journe has created several versions of his wristwatch over the last 20 years. The new Chronomètre à Résonance has a single mainspring for both movements. A differential located on the first wheel, visible in the centre of the dial, transmits the force of the mainspring separately to the two secondary wheels. Each secondary wheel is equipped with a Remontoir d'Égalité at a frequency of one second. Operating in this way, the force received by the escapements remains linear and guarantees isochronism for 28 hours. The Chronomètre à Résonance is equipped with a redesigned case with a crown at 2 o'clock that simplifies winding the watch. The time is set with the crown pushed in, clockwise for the left-hand dial and anti-clockwise for the right-hand dial. The crown at 4 o'clock allows the seconds counters to be reset to zero simultaneously. On the side of the movement, 2 remontoirs d'égalité transmit a constant force to each of the two pendulums to remain isochronous during the 28 hours of winding. The watch is available with a platinum or 6N 18ct gold case with a diameter of 40 or 42 mm. The dial is available in white gold or 6N 18 ct gold with 2 hour counters in silver guilloché clous de Paris and a leather, gold or platinum bracelet.
