Young and innovative: the Hublot manufacture

A Maison that breaks the mould, combining traditional savoir-faire with the most advanced technologies and novel materials: with five members of L'Orologio Club, we went on a discovery tour of Hublot on 17 and 18 October. The visit began in the 'Hublot 2' building, the most recent one inaugurated in 2015, where the production departments of the manufacture movement components and cases, and the sertissage and decoration workshops are located. Even cases made of unusual materials such as linen fibre, carbon or Texalium are manufactured in this building. On the other hand, the art of casting materials is one of the main activities, together with the study of complicated movements, of the Research and Development department in building H1. It is here that the 'foundry' of Hublot's Magic Gold is located. In the H1 facility, the assembly of movements takes place, on the one hand the 'series' models, notably the Unico, and on the other the complicated ones. This is where pieces such as the MP-05 La Ferrari were born, a tourbillon with a 50-day power reserve, a record for a hand-wound model of this type, thanks to 11 barrels connected in parallel. Or like the Big Bang Chronograph Tourbillon Minute Repeater Cathedral, a fine example of how even the most traditional complications can blend with futuristic design and materials.
