The first Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms collection, comprising five diving models that pay tribute to the oceans, has been joined by the new Ocean of Storms version. It is a tribute to Oceanus Procellarum, the largest sea on the Moon, with an extension of more than 2,500 kilometres on the north-south axis and a surface area of approximately 2 million square kilometres.
With the other models, it shares dimensions (42.3 mm in diameter) and main features. It is equipped with the Sistem51, the first and only mechanical movement with fully automated assembly, protected from magnetic fields by the Nivachron balance spring and with a 90-hour power reserve.
Continuing the philosophy of Blancpain never to use a quartz movement. The biological glass on the back reveals the decorations: the digitally printed illustration of the full moon (enlarged on the Oceanus Procellarum) and the nudibranch Okenia Luna on the rotor.
The case is made of bioceramic. material patented by Swatch composed of two thirds ceramic and one third organic material derived from castor oil. In this version, it is black because it is inspired by the New Moon (also known as the Black Moon). Water resistance is 91 metres (50 fathoms, a reference to Blancpain's famous diver). The sun-brushed black dial features the date display between 4 and 5 o'clock and bears the joint Blancpain x Swatch logos. The unidirectional rotating bezel is also black with a polished insert and 60-minute graduation.
As an expression of the commitment to ocean conservation, the Nato strap of the Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms Ocean of Storms is made of recycled material from fishing nets.
