Even watches made in Glashütte, a small German town with a 175-year tradition in the world of hands, now have their own geographical designation of origin label. The Glashütte Ordinance gives locally manufactured timepieces, which meet high quality standards, legal protection similar to 'Swiss Made', helping to defend brands against imitations.
A real achievement, if you think that this is only the second time since 1938 that a protected designation of origin has been granted to a technical product in Germany. And also a source of pride and satisfaction for the local companies that produce there. Such as the independent manufacturer Nomos Glashütte, founded in 1990 by Roland Schwertner.
A link, that of Nomos with the German town and tradition in general, is also found in the Tetra neomatik - 175 Years Watchmaking Glashütte limited series, which renews the classic square Tetra model with manual winding. All in the name of intense, bold colours and a new automatic motor.
Four watches, equipped with an ultra-thin movement (3.2 mm thick DUW calibre 3001) made in-house, feature a coloured dial - red, blue, black or white. The latter is finished using a technique with effects comparable to enamel, as light is not absorbed but reflected by the opaque surfaces, creating greater depth. Limited to just 175 pieces per model, the collection combines a steel case (33 mm) with a Horween Genuine Shell Cordovan strap.
As far as shape and size are concerned, there is no indication of gender, since the Tetra neomatik watches, as is already the case with other models of the company, are imagined for any wrist. A genderless approach that, in line with what has been happening for some time in other sectors, from fashion to beauty, overcomes the old man/woman dualism to focus more on style.
